Freezing temperatures are back, which means it’s time to prep your home for the winter! Remember to always leave your furnace on a minimum of 60°F. Avoid leaving your home unoccupied with the furnace turned down for extended periods of time during the winter months. Spending a few extra dollars to keep the furnace up can save hundreds in water damage repairs.
Be sure to winterize your hose bibs and sprinkler systems and store your hoses indoors to prevent damage. Your West Hills home will have inside shutoff controls for your hose faucets; close them for winter. Open your outside hose faucet — which will allow any water in the pipes to drain out — then close the water faucet. Do not leave hoses connected to the spigot, as frozen trapped water could break the faucet. Store them indoors to prevent damage. If your home doesn’t have a hose bib shutoff valve, leave the spigots closed and protect them with an insulated cover. These are plentiful and easy to find at local hardware stores.
